This is the recipe my moms moms mom gave her, with one exception! This variation is vegetarian!
Since it is Italian and passed down through the generations I am going to print exactly how my mom gave me the recipe. Quite hilarious!
Start it with onion, garlic, hot pepper flakes, basil: dried. Saute that together and put in 1 large can or 2 small cans of pieces and stem mushrooms (drained). Then add 1 can of diced tomatoes, and 2 cans of tomato sauce. Cooked it like regular sauce. Added grated Romano cheese and at the end a little more Olive Oil…..Boil the rigs and poured it over.
And there you have it! Good luck! ha. This is how we cook in my family. To clear things up (or to make things more complicated) I have added pictures throughout the process. I also used fresh mushrooms fyi 🙂
Mine turned out perfect and tasted like moms…well not exactly. It never does, does it?
